Three Rules of Success

A huge part of life is simply “suiting up and showing up”.  Too many Men out there fail to even put forth the most basic of efforts.  They continually wonder why life is so hard, why they have the worst luck, why they fail constantly…

Here’s a clue…  They simply don’t try.  They never get off the sidelines and onto the playing field.  If you never touch the ball, you will never score.  Just by putting out some effort in a few areas, you can stand out so easily from the masses and get ahead quickly.

I don’t preach health and wealth.  I try not to preach at all.  Living an authentic life where my actions speak the loudest will always be my plan.

No matter what you do in life, you have customers.  In every job I’ve ever looked at, you have to perform to a certain level of competancy to make someone else happy.  A boss, an end user, a co-worker on a project….

Sales is the absolute easiest example for pleasing customers.  But even the lowest janitor on the company totem pole has customers he has to please.  I did title Three Rules, so here goes:

  1. Do what you say you’re going to do when you say you’re going to do it.  This alone will make you better than 95% of the people you’ve ever worked with.  Most people talk a good game and never deliver.  They are viewed as weak and unreliable.  They can’t get the promotion or the raise.  Their attempts at starting a business fall well short of any success.  If you know you can’t meet an obligation, don’t say you can.  Move Heaven and Earth to honor your commitments.
  2. Don’t Lie to Anyone. This sounds fairly easy to most of us, hopefully.  Is it?  Do you find yourself telling little fibs?  Exaggerating your stories?  Flat out blaming others to avoid trouble?  Everyone around you figures this out.  Once again, you lose any and all credibility.  Most of the time, you still think you’re the smartest guy in the room.
  3. Do what’s in your customer’s best interest at all times.  Remember what I said about we all have customers?  They want to know you’ve got their back.  Sometimes walking away from a lucrative deal is just the right thing to do because your customer is making a huge mistake.  All you have to do is get caught doing the right thing one time and in that customer’s eyes, you have become a legend.  A trusted partner.  You become one of them.

These three are all rather interconnected.   Man of Honor 101.   So easy and yet most don’t think this applies to them.  There is an overwhelming feeling you get from just doing the right thing.  The better you feel about yourself, the more you emanate positive successful energy in every aspect of your life.

I used to always laugh and say,  “I”m too stupid to lie to anyone, I’ll never remember what I lied about.  Easier to try and remember the truth.”  Put this suit of honor on for a few months and see how many battles you win.
