Monk Mode

Monk Mode: something about that term I just Love.  I envision a man in a brown robe, huddled over a book, reading by candlelight.  Intense preparation.  Deep studying.  Inner search perhaps?  Denial of physical pleasures?  Embodiment of wisdom and truth? All of the above?

This month of October, I am going into Monk Mode.  I actually started it Friday. I never could wait till Christmas AM to open the presents.  This is a present I’m giving to myself.

Back in March, The Family Alpha led a group on a challenge called the Men of March. It was 31 days whereby a man reclaimed his maculine life. It was so successful, Hunter wrote it into a book.  31 Days To Masculinity

I highly recommend this book and the daily challenges inside. It’s mental, spiritual and physical.

So for me, it’s been six months since I completed the Men of March challenge. I tackled a lot of big things in my path.  Now it’s time to fine tune and knock out some of the smaller items I’ve been ignoring.

For me and several friends, this will be journey both within and without.  We’ve decided to enter into a physical challenge of extreme workouts and ultra-healthy feeding of the body.  In this month, we will nourish our souls and hearts as well.  Purifying the body and the mind.  No fap, no booze.  No poisons.

And as part of that improvement, each commits to learning a new skill.  A new project.  Something we’ve never done before.

Unlike what Hunter did, we are all doing it our own way outside the basic framework.  I won’t be listing daily challenges for others. That’s not my tbing.

This is a period of self-induced discomfort.  I plan to make myself as uncomfortable each day as I can.  I want to look back at this month and say, this was the hard reset I’ve been needing.

We have become a nation of very comfortable men.  We relax way more than we should. We stagnate. Complacency kills. Working Monday thru Friday in order to drink a bunch of beers on the weekend and watch football doesn’t seem like living.  It seems like just getting by.

I have had a great life so far.  I want the reminder to be exceptional.  I want to be remembered as a man who really lived an authentic life.  A man who always fought and never shied away from the tough things.

In truth, we should all be eating great and working out hard.  How often I’ve said that I work out so I can eat whatever I want. Flawed thinking.

A buddy pointed out, “You can’t out-exercise a bad diet.”  Truth.

My son says, “Abs are not chisled in the gym, but in the kitchen.”

So, no Fap, no booze, intense physical training, ultra clean eating, working on a new skill, tuning out distractions.

But in keeping with my goal of tuning out distractions and Lord knows Twitter is one of them, I only plan to check in with the others on a limited daily basis.

    1. No ma’am. No Fap (no sex by myself) basically and I travel a lot. I did not see any reason for Curvey to be punished in the process! So I do plan on keeping my relationship strong in all ways. In all candor, there were too many years in the past where we would not have sex but lonce a month or less. We have both lived thru that hell.

    1. Please reach out any way you wish. I love talking about this stuff. It’s okay to be a masculine man even though society tries to squash that out of us from an early age.
